It may also refer to tax rulings and determinations to appear legitimate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fake website is designed to collect personal information and cryptocurrency wallet information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Variations of this scam have been reported, so it is important to always stop and check before clicking links or downloading files.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a reminder, the ATO will never send unsolicited messages directing taxpayers to provide personal information, credentials or cryptocurrency wallet details through links in emails or SMS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What to do if this email is received:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not respond.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not click any links.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not provide personal information, login credentials or cryptocurrency wallet details.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Report the email by forwarding it to <a href=\"mailto:ReportScams@ato.gov.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ReportScams@ato.gov.au<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Delete the email from the mailbox.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a taxpayer has interacted with the website or provided personal information, they should phone the ATO immediately on <strong>1800 008 540<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Download PDF Warning there is a new email impersonation scam claiming to be from the ATO.&nbsp; The email claims that recipients are required to complete a crypto asset disclosure form, with some versions claiming failure to complete will result in financial charges and administrative penalties.&nbsp; The link sends individuals to a fake ATO website which &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":2194,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2193","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-propertyinvestment","anons"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.8 -
